IOS 11: Tips for creating and editing live photos

Adding and editing live photos with effects: With iOS 11, Apple on the iPhone extends a practical feature - the recording of short clips to a photo. The short videos, which Apple introduced with the iPhone 6s , are supposed to find even more friends. We will explain to you what new possibilities exist and how you best use them.

Use new effects from iOS 11

Under iOS 11, you can add three new effects to LivePhotos that may be known to users of Snapchat and Instagram: Loop, Bounce, and Long Exposure. In order to use the effects, you first take a live photo with your iPhone.

The effects can not be found under "Edit". Instead, you must wipe up in the Photos app while you are viewing the LivePhoto you want to change. Now you choose one of the three effects - then it takes a small moment to apply Loop, Bounce or Long Exposure. The effect you have selected will be displayed next to the live photo icon in the upper left corner.

This is how you change the thumbnail

With iOS 11, you have the possibility to change the preview image: You can choose from the series of single images of the Live Photos, which is displayed as "still image" for the short clip. For example, this can be handy if you photograph a person, but it will cut a funny grimace shortly afterwards. In the live photo, the facial expression is happily intercepted.

After recording, select the live photo and tap Edit. This option is displayed under the image instead of the three sliders that are available in iOS 10. Now you can move the white frame until you find a frame that you like. Now, tap "Make Key Photo" to apply the change. As before, you can also cut live photos in this area or have colored effects.

Share photos with Facebook and Co.

So that you can share a live photo in a social network like Facebook or a messenger like WhatsApp, you have to convert the moving picture to a different format - otherwise you can see only people who are using an iPhone. The conversion to GIF is recommended: How this is done, we described it in detail for you elsewhere . In order to compensate for wizards , which can arise during the recording, the free Google app Motion Stills is suitable.

Record a LivePhoto

If you want to record a live photo on an iPhone with iOS 11, you can do it as usual: To activate the feature, tap the icon with three yellow circles (center) in the camera app. Then, at the top of the preview, the word "Live" is displayed - and for each photo a video shot for almost two seconds. Keep in mind: If you leave the feature permanently enabled, it will take up a lot of space over time. To switch off the function again, tap the symbol in the preview window again.

Summary:
  • To use the Loop, Bounce, and Long Exposure effects with iOS 11, you will wipe the Photos app up when the Live Photo is displayed
  • Change the preview image by tapping "Edit" after recording and moving the white frame to the desired location
  • To be able to share live photos in social networks and trade fairs , you have to convert them into GIFs
  • If you want to record a live photo, tap the icon with three yellow circles in the preview of the camera app
